Lead Mechanical Engineer
About the role
A Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and leading other team members in specifying mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and assemblies for products used in renewable energy, microgrid, EV charging, crypto mining, and data center markets. This position supports the Design Engineering team in the design and qualification of mechanical components, sub-systems, multi-level assemblies, and system architecture of various products used in the energy industry.
Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of their engineering team.
- Provides coaching and development opportunities for their team through regular interactions.
- Develops the design scope and timeline for their discipline within engineering projects.
- Responsible for meeting project requirements and timelines.
- Supports the design of mechanical components and sub-systems for power/low voltage products including component selection, general layouts, assembly design and installation.
- Performs complex design calculations to ensure design compliance with project requirements or reviews others work for correctness.
- Studies and understands related government and industry standards that govern the products being developed.
- Produces relevant documentation needed to meet project goals, mechanical layouts, mechanical component prints, mechanical assemblies, and compliance documents.
- Interacts with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Industrial Engineering staff on a regular basis.
- Supports the creation of 2D prints and 3D models at a system level.
- Develops product Bill of Material structures to allow for modularity and configurability of products.
- Reviews Bills of Materials and Change Notices to release components and assemblies.
- Supports costing activities to ensure pricing targets are achieved at the project level.
- Supports the creation of technical manuals for operation and maintenance of related products.
- Provide technical assistance for prototype and pilot builds along with production support as needed.
- Works with suppliers to integrate various components into higher level system designs.
- Serves as a resource for the service, aftermarket, and installation teams as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience working knowledge in 2D/3D CAD design software.
- Experience with structural enclosures, mechanical assemblies, HVAC systems, mechanical piping, firefighting systems, and/or power generation.
- Problem-solving skills, root cause analysis, and corrective action experience.
- Experience in Bill of Material creation and Change Notice processes.
Qualifications
- 10 years of product design experience.
- Design experience in electrical components or equipment within the energy industry.
- Design experience with programming languages and controls software.
- Manufacturing and field support experience.
Skills
- Understanding high-level requirements and creating detail-level requirements and designs.
- Leading other team members within the Design Engineering team.
- Aligning design activities to project timelines.
- Providing coaching and mentoring for team members.

Pay
Commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. Works a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.
