About the role
You will lead the design, analysis, testing, and lifecycle support of the mechanical systems used in aircraft arresting and recovery systems. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams – including project management, operations and government customers – to deliver innovative, safe, and cost-effective solutions. You will do this for our existing products as well as new product development.
Responsibilities
- Create complex new equipment, machinery and components for various product lines (e.g. hydraulic assemblies, electro-mechanical control systems, and structural members) to meet or exceed customer specifications and requirements while ensuring manufacturability.
- Generate manufacturing drawings for parts, determine manufacturing processes and specify tolerancing requirements.
- Develop engineering solutions and proposal documentation for RFQs and RFIs.
- Develop engineering documentation (technical specifications, procedures, etc.) for new products.
- Perform engineering analysis (classical hand-calculation and FEA).
- Communicate with customers on project and design related challenges.
- Cookordination with production team, quality, and project management to ensure orderly transition of system from prototype to pre-production to production state.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of Mechanical Design experience.
- Preference given for defense or aerospace industry experience.
- Experience creating complex mechanical and/or electro-mechanical designs to meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Knowledge and experience in industrial and machine design and analysis.
- Lead roles in product development and put into practice various engineering processes listed below.
- Understanding of different manufacturing processes: machining, grinding, lapping, additive manufacturing, wire EDM, sheet metal fabrication etc.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using CATIA V5 or similar.
- Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and related standards for drawing creation.
- Proficiency in engineering processes (e.g. FMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, etc.).
- Team player and effective communication.
- Familiarity with layout and schematics is a plus.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems design and analysis.
- Familiarity with control systems, PLCs, etc. is a plus.
- Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, MIL-STD, etc.).
