About the role
As a Lead Material Handler at Schindler, you’ll monitor and develop employee performance to achieve and exceed departmental and company operations’ goals. You’ll oversee inventory management through our Cycle Counting Program, shipping and receiving, and all stock movement activities.
Responsibilities
- Safety: Work safely and proactively lead a safer work environment. Actively participate in all company safety rules and practices.
- Quality: Ensure work duties produce quality, defect-free pieces or mistake-free output. Check team’s quality of work and verify conformance to standards. Maintain personal work quality.
- Costing: Complete and maintain all necessary records and reports for receiving, stores, issuing, and shipment. Indicate short or damaged goods and obtain driver’s signature where required.
- Production:
- Facilitate and support teamwork to achieve total customer satisfaction.
- Provide guidance, counseling, and development for team assignments.
- Prepare meeting agendas and facilitate team meetings.
- Support resolution of internal and external customer problems; escalate when appropriate.
- Assist in maintaining adequate staffing levels and make recommendations as needed.
- Coordinate team training to ensure adherence to procedures.
- Act as a job-related information resource for associates and internal customers.
- Monitor efficiency of department tools and equipment; escalate issues as needed.
- Manage team conflicts constructively and report employee issues to management.
- Delegate tasks as needed and facilitate team self-evaluation.
- Maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Assist with performance appraisals.
- Oversee material transfer between primary and offsite storage locations.
- Schedule and approve employee work hours.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Employee Engagement: Serve as a backup for peer team leads if absent. Lead small teams for standard and nonstandard work.
- Leadership: Guide and assist team members. Provide suggestions and ideas for continuous improvement. Train, mentor, and guide the team.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- Required to drive company truck between Holland & Maumee facilities based on business demand.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Operator certification within 60 days of hire.
- Previous forklift/box truck experience.
- SAP/MRP/ERP knowledge.
- Inventory management experience (Cycle Counting & Correcting Inventory).
- Internal candidates shall be rated a level 4 in the majority of competency categories.
- Working knowledge of Excel.
