About the Role
Responsible for providing direction to Forklift Operators, including training, assigning work, and resolving problems within the area of responsibility. Operates gasoline-, liquefied gas-, or electric-powered industrial equipment equipped with lifting devices (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, clamp, or other elevating equipment) to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials from rail cars in a distribution center or storage yard. Supports and trains newly hired forklift operators and assists supervisors and management in planning, assigning, and directing work.
Responsibilities
- Load, unload, move, stock, and stage products and materials using powered industrial equipment.
- Maintain equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
- Inspect assigned equipment daily and operate all equipment safely and efficiently following prescribed work methods and OSHA standards.
- Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
- Stack and store product in appropriate areas and prepare products for shipment, ensuring accurate counts and types.
- Move product from staging/storage areas into rail cars, trailers, or containers.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage; report quality variances.
- Inventory materials on the work floor and supply workers with materials as needed.
- Follow customer requirements to ensure load count accuracy, product stability, and safe loading/unloading.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Customer Service, Transportation, Maintenance).
- Perform good housekeeping practices and maintain a clean work area.
- Conduct operations and equipment in a manner that promotes safety; report unsafe conditions to leadership.
- Follow corporate and site-specific Good Manufacturing Practices; report noncompliance.
- Observe all company safety rules and assist in enforcement as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Forklift Operator experience, preferably with rail-specific experience.
- Ability to successfully complete post-hire assessments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain equipment certifications (e.g., OSHA, company-specific).
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., protective footwear, eyewear, gloves) in accordance with safety policies.
