Mechanic Responsibilities

  • Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with the authority to initiate action
  • Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and replace equipment and components involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, relay logic systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Communicate equipment breakdown status to shift dispatcher
  • Move equipment and machinery using standard methods of lifting, rigging, hoisting, blocking, skidding and rolling
  • Perform work in a safe, clean, thorough and professional manner
  • Absess situations and develop solutions and estimated time frames to satisfy work requests
  • Research and comprise parts list necessary to satisfy work requests
  • Adhere to all company and department policies and procedures
  • Accurately document information on work orders, such as, time it took to perform task, parts used etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals to assist in troubleshooting as well as identifying parts needed for repairs
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with co-workers including manufacturing associates, other support department associates and management
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned by the maintenance supervisor

Department Lead Responsibilities

  • Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with the authority to initiate action
  • Ensure that GMP’s are enforced at all times
  • Communicate quickly and precisely both written or verbally, ideally by end of shift
  • Ensure department and company policies and procedures are enforced at all times
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring maintenance staff when requested
  • Assist with disciplinary action (progressive discipline policy) when associates fall short of expectations when requested
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor review maintenance work orders from the planner / scheduler and delegates the work to the maintenance staff and follows up to ensure work orders are completed timely and accurately
  • Provide necessary support and technical expertise to maintenance staff as needed
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor ensure maintenance staff is documenting information on the work orders / time allocation sheets accurately (time in and time out, parts used etc.)
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor evaluate performance and quality of the work performed by maintenance staff
  • Assist maintenance staff in troubleshooting of the equipment while also training mechanics on how to perform tasks at hand
  • Monitor and follow up with maintenance staff while work is being performed to ensure work is being performed accurately and timely
  • Ensure estimated time of completion is being adhered to and communicate status of break-downs
  • Evaluate current skill levels of each mechanic (via an individual skill assessment) and suggest education opportunities to enhance maintenance skills to maintenance supervisor when requested
  • Assist the maintenance supervisor with annual and semi-annual performance reviews of maintenance staff when requested
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor ensure maintenance shop and individual work area is cleaned and organized at all times (staff tool boxes, shop tools, benches, pipe rack, sheet metal rack, and welding area etc.)
  • Update Redzone activity per the Redzone procedure
  • Update next shift on the status of work (required to come in 15 min before scheduled shift)
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor ensure time allocations sheets are completed accurately and reviewed each day
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor enforce all company and department safety policies (LOTO, safety harness etc.)
  • In the absence of the maintenance supervisor communicate estimated time of completion to production, planning, scheduling when breakdowns occur
  • Train new hires / maintenance staff on preventative maintenance activities (Check list, documentation, time frame expectations) as well as on department introductions, facility, equipment, department policies and procedures, equipment manuals
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned by the maintenance supervisor
