About the Role
Responsible for coordinating and assigning overall duties, policies, and procedures within the maintenance department, including the use of MMS (Maintenance Management System). Assists production to ensure all processes comply with specifications and standards. Provides training and resources needed within the scope of work.
Responsibilities
- Serves as frontline leader for maintenance personnel through continuous improvement, using lean manufacturing, world-class manufacturing, and 5S.
- Assists production in monitoring machine productivity, downtime, and waste reduction to meet standards.
- Assigns work tasks to mechanics and assists the maintenance supervisor with scheduling and monitoring workloads.
- Supervises the preventive maintenance program and continuously improves it using 5S as a guide, including:
- Conducting installation, programming, and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Conducting installation, programming, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting all types of AC and DC electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Disassembling, repairing, and reassembling gearboxes, fans, conveyors, blowers, compressors, pumps, valves, furnaces, drives, and allied mechanical equipment.
- Troubleshooting oven combustion setup and safety devices.
- Troubleshooting hydraulic and compressed air systems, including reading complex diagrams.
- Conducting weekly 5S audits of toolboxes, company-provided tools, spare parts rooms, and assigned maintenance shop areas.
- Providing weekly feedback to mechanics on equipment performance (OEE), PM attainment, 5S performance, and personal effort.
- Diagnoses and employs proper troubleshooting procedures to determine when parts need replacement or repairs.
- Operates mobile lift trucks and hoisting equipment; must have a forklift operator’s license.
- Possesses knowledge of lubricants for all types of machines and performs necessary lubrication of production machines.
- Uses MMS for ordering parts or services.
- Troubleshoots and repairs food processing and industrial machinery.
- Maintains a positive and constructive work environment within the department and promotes teamwork.
- Trains new employees, monitors and evaluates their progress (including safety, preventive controls, and food safety), and recommends transfers and promotions.
- Fills in for the supervisor in their absence.
- Works safely, observing all safety requirements.
- Verifies GMPs and safety standards are maintained and takes action when deficiencies are noted.
- Consistently applies company rules per the employee handbook and policies (e.g., attendance, safety).
- Monitors schedules, timecards, and prepares HR-related paperwork, including disciplinary actions, ESNs, and attendance forms.
- Ensures all food safety principles and legal requirements are applied effectively.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in a production line in a manufacturing plant required; bakery or food/beverage manufacturing preferred.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
Skills
- Experience overseeing a production line is highly preferred.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize assigned work.
- Experience with manufacturing safety concepts, applications, and committees.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Ability to work independently with a proven record of follow-through, teamwork, and accountability.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to adapt to system changes.
- Ability to perform simple analysis.
- SAP and ADP knowledge preferred.
- Effective communication in both Spanish and English.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for long periods.
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold, and confined areas.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Schedule
3rd shift: 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM. Must be able to work weekends and overtime.
Pay
Hourly pay: $39.52 – $40.27, plus shift differential, overtime, holiday pay, and vacation/sick pay.
