Responsibilities
- Acts in accordance with hospital policies with a high degree of professional ethics and conduct, modeling that standard for MRI staff.
- Accurately interprets a physician’s scanning instructions, administers contrast materials, prepares and operates the MRI scan equipment, and positions the patient to capture the appropriate images.
- Provides care for patients of all ages, relying on past experience and professional training with geriatric and pediatric patients.
- Uses all safety forms the Imaging Department provides prior to bringing a patient into the MRI exam room, ensuring MRI staff do the same.
- Safely manages the environment of care while providing patient care and services.
- Delegates assignments in a courteous manner.
- Assists in ensuring full compliance with all Department of Health regulations applicable to MRI.
- Sees that staff members support all quality, safety measures, and practices.
- Contacts the Imaging Manager regarding equipment malfunctions, supply requests, and any unusual situations that depart from standard policies and procedures.
- Functions using independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity when performing technical procedures, serving as the technical resource for MRI staff.
- Manages and monitors the equipment used to acquire MRI images.
- Develops and organizes diagnostic-quality images prior to giving them to the radiologist for interpretation.
- Utilizes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices.
- Serves as a department mentor.
- Supports department changes.
- Is willing to be part of the call team.
- Attends routine and mandatory meetings and in-services as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned, some of which may be essential to the position.
Leadership
- Assists with new employee orientation and training.
- Assists with ordering of supplies and inventory.
- Adjusts shift to provide coverage and reduce overtime.
- Assists with the merit review process by providing input on employee performance.
- Delegates assignments in a courteous manner.
- Serves as a department mentor.
- Assists with annual competency evaluations.
- Supports department changes.
- Demonstrates problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Maintains and enforces MRI safety screening for patients, staff, and non-imaging personnel, and controls access to the MRI exam room.
- Partners with the Lead CT Technologist on shared department standards, cross-coverage, and call schedule.
- Escalates staffing, performance, equipment, and budget matters to the Imaging Manager.
Requirements
- Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree, or hospital-based certificate program.
- WA State License and ARRT (Radiology) (MR) certifications.
- A minimum of 2 years of MRI experience.
- CPR certified.

Work Environment
- Occasional exposure to chemicals and odors.
- Exposure to bodily fluids while assisting physician with biopsy procedures.
- Working in the presence of a magnet for prolonged periods of time.
- Exposure to blood is possible when administering contrast injections.
- Transporting patients outside during inclement weather to the MRI Trailer.
Physical Demands
- Ability to grasp firmly with both hands and lift up to twenty (20) pounds routinely throughout the shift.
- Standing, walking, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, twisting, reaching, handling, kneeling, and wrist and digital dexterity.
- Patient lifting, ambulating, and transfer of patients in wheelchairs, on gurneys and beds, and for use of mechanical lifts.
- Concentration, attention to detail, and corrected vision are needed to produce the best possible images.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements:
- Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
