Job Description
Assist Shift Supervisor with managing assigned shift, focusing on key areas of safety, quality, production, and communication. Provide real-time floor oversight, ensure compliance with standards, gather data on performance and issues, and escalate to supervisors for strategic decisions in a high-volume paper bag manufacturing environment. Split floor coverage with the other Lead to monitor machines, drive team development, and minimize losses due to articulable constraints.
- Serve as first line technical support for Machine Operators, and Utility persons
- Maintain production schedules and ensure machines are running on schedule and at production speed
- Monitor bags being run, taking hourly samples to inspect quality and catch defects and unnecessary waste
- Make sure machines are cleaned and repaired as needed
- Ensure work areas are safe and employees are following safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), guarding machinery, and maintaining proper work attire
- Submit accurate production reports daily and timely
- Schedule breaks for employees and relieve them as needed
- Evaluate employees' performances, administer counseling and/or disciplinary action, and improve recurring problems
- Train new employees or assign them to others to train
- Keep work areas clean and refer employees to Human Resources for complaints and/or first step grievances or other issues
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety Practices
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management, including food safety
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2-5 years Adjuster experience
- Effective listening, speaking & writing ability in person and on the phone
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and quality instructions, and procedural manuals
- Ability to complete routine reports and records
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Ability to write clearly and concisely, using good grammar and professional style
- Self managing with organization and time management skills
- Must have good eyesight (no colorblindness) to spot flaws in color comparison, print set-up, etc. as bags or film come off the production line
