About the role

The Lead Instructional Designer serves as a key resource for instructional design, course development, faculty support, technology integration, and continuous quality improvement for online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced instruction within the Office of Distance Education.

This role provides leadership and expertise in developing effective, engaging, and accessible learning experiences that support diverse student needs and instructional goals. The position supports faculty and academic teams throughout the course development and improvement process, including the effective integration of instructional technologies, digital learning strategies, and evidence-based teaching practices.

The Lead Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty and stakeholders to enhance course quality, strengthen instructional effectiveness, and promote consistent standards for online and technology-enhanced learning. Beyond operational course development, this role contributes to broader institutional strategies related to distance learning, digital education, accessibility, and student success, advancing innovative instructional practices and improving the student learning experience.

This position is located on either the Midlands Technical College Airport or Beltline Campus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead instructional design initiatives for online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
  • Support faculty and academic teams in course development and improvement processes.
  • Integrate instructional technologies and digital learning strategies using evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty and stakeholders to enhance course quality and instructional effectiveness.
  • Promote consistent standards for online and technology-enhanced learning.
  • Contribute to institutional strategies for distance learning, digital education, accessibility, and student success.
  • Advance innovative instructional practices to improve the student learning experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education or a directly related field.
  • Experience in curriculum development.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design, online course development, faculty support, and the effective use of educational technologies.
  • Experience applying accessibility standards, Universal Design for Learning, quality review practices, and evidence-based approaches to online and blended learning.
  • Ability to develop guidelines and processes for curriculum development and encourage participant involvement.
