About the Opportunity

The Lead HIM Technician is responsible for overseeing health information management functions, including auditing and evaluating medical records to ensure compliance with regulations. This role serves as a working supervisor, providing guidance within established policies. The position plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of patient medical records and supports the broader health information management team.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and perform audits on health information management functions.
• Serve as working supervisor for a team or work group.
• Review, evaluate, and assess patient medical records for compliance.
• Provide guidance to staff within the scope of established policies.
• Scan and prepare patient documents ensuring electronic medical record accuracy.
• Assign correct document barcode identification numbers.
• Analyze inpatient and outpatient medical records and input information accurately.
• Obtain, verify, and prepare discharged medical records with accurate labeling.
• Perform qualitative analysis and input deficiency data into the system.
• Prepare reports, special projects, and chart audits as requested.
• Process requests for release of information in accordance with policies and regulations.
• Retrieve charts for units or outside storage and handle transcribed/scanned documents as needed.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Education or GED required.
• Associate’s or Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred.
• Five years of relevant experience preferred.
