Responsibilities
- Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector.
- Tasks include the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of power distribution, renewable energy, as well as protection and control systems in a wide variety of building projects.
- Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications.
- Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Manages client relationships and provides key technical input on pursuit efforts.
- Works within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
- Projects management of cross-functional teams of engineers including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, permit applications, construction documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Collaborates with owners, design professionals, and other stakeholders on business development opportunities.
- Designs primary electrical power and emergency power systems.
- Designs fire alarm and life safety systems.
- Designs lighting and lighting control systems.
- Schedules and selects electrical components and equipment.
- Performs electrical load, short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
- Attends client and other stakeholder meetings.
- Works with clients to ensure deliverables are met on time.
- Drives new business through building sustainable relationships with our clients.
- Interacts with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Supervises and mentors our younger engineers.
- Exercises responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering.
- 7 plus years of relevant post education experience as an engineer active in the design of electrical systems in industrial/pharmaceutical, laboratories, commercial, institutional/higher education, healthcare, or similar facilities.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical design, particularly in the healthcare industry.
- At least 5+ years minimum Project Management experience.
- A professional engineering license is required.
- Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Prominent track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Able to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
