Summary or Purpose

Oversee and perform a wide variety of maintenance work at facilities and grounds which includes routine maintenance, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical. Also assists with preventative maintenance such as flooring and/or ceiling work, door and/or window replacement/repair, painting, roofing, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and electrical.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with coordinating and maintaining inventory of parts and supplies for facility repairs.

Order materials as needed; maintain accurate records and inventory control along with receiving reports.

Performs quality inspections on work complete by other Facility Maintenance Specialist Staff;

Coordinates, maintains and repair physical structures as needed.

Use power tools and other departmental equipment to perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and/or other repairs and maintenance.

Inspect all North Slope Borough facilities, equipment and grounds for necessary repairs, improvements, or preventative maintenance.

Comply with all safety standards.

Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.

Within NSB Health Facilities and NSB Itinerate Quarters, respect clients and/or tenants by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPPA requirements.

Will be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays, and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Will be required to travel.

Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.

Perform duties as assigned by the work order(s) received.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Skill in using personnel computers and variety of software applications.

Ability to establish and maintain effect working relations with co-workers and others.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

A highschool Graduate or GED, a combination of 12 years of education and work-related experience;

Three years of combined work experience in carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing;

Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria;

Must be 21 years of age;

Ability to pass a criminal background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit;

Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis;

Ability to obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid Certifications within 6 months of hire;

Ability to obtain OSHA 10 Hour Certification within 6 months of hire.

Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

This position is NON-Rotational. Housing is NOT provided. Therefore, due to extreme weather conditions in the arctic and for your safety, housing accommodations must be located and pre-arranged by the applicant prior to the start of employment. The applicant must pay for housing; it is not provided by the NSB. Please note: The Borough is currently experiencing a housing shortage. Due to the remote setting, applicants are urged to consider this factor prior to submitting an application.
