Lead Fabricator

About the role

Fabricators manufacture assorted products using various raw materials, tools and their own hands. They manufacture customized products that meet customer specifications and prepare completed orders for shipment. They analyze capacity and production data to determine manufacturing processes and required resources, resolve issues related to production, machinery, processing, and/or packaging operations, and ensure quality control standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Examine specifications of the customer’s order using drawings, work orders, or blueprints to determine the characteristics of the finished item, materials to be used, and machine setup requirements.
  • Fabricate work piece as determined by work order specifications.
  • Retrieve correct materials and perform various fabrication duties.
  • Examine work piece visually, by touch, or using tape rule, calipers, or gauges to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures.
  • Coach and train lower-level fabricators on the proper execution of duties and ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment assessment(s) if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fabrication shop equipment.
  • Metal working experience.
  • Ability to professionally lead staff by example and handle light supervisory duties.
  • Familiar with training and coaching techniques.
  • Ability to change or adapt work practices, priorities, or procedures.
  • Ability to think and take constructive action in work-related matters.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with others in a group, cooperate with others, offer to help when needed, and foster a team climate within the group where members are committed to a common goal.
  • Time management and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of HDPE butt fusion and fabrication.

Career Level Dimensions

  • Typical Training/Experience: HS Diploma or GED, strongly preferred; 4–6 years of experience in area of responsibility.
  • Problem Complexity: May modify processes to resolve situations.
  • Autonomy: Under limited supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes. Course of action is often determined by interpreting procedures and policies. Work typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor or direct "customers" of the process.
  • Leadership: Is sought out and/or assigned to provide general guidance/direction, training, and technical assistance to junior-level support personnel. Contributes to employees' professional development but does not have hiring/firing authority.

Environmental Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs in a physical environment.
