Lead Exterior Maintenance Technician

About the role

This position is responsible for the supervision of all grounds-related duties and staff required for exterior maintenance, specifically pressure washing of hardscaped areas across Augusta University campuses, including Health Sciences, Summerville, Christenberry Field House, University Village, Riverfront Campus, Clay Street Warehouse, and Gracewood.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on maintenance, training, and supervision for grounds and facility pressure washing tasks, including building exteriors, stairways, sidewalks, entryways, outdoor seating areas, loading docks, signage, recreational spaces, exterior furniture, waste receptacles, and other hardscape surfaces.
• Ensure facilities are protected during pressure washing to prevent water intrusion and damage.
• Schedule team responsibilities, coordinate with other teams for assistance, and plan equipment needs for tasks.
• Provide labor time accounting using ServiceNow, tracking events and team hours in ServiceNow, Smart Inspect, or other facility tracking programs.
• Coordinate with faculty and staff to ensure student safety, address noise considerations, meet exterior maintenance expectations, and resolve accessibility issues.
• Monitor and communicate equipment maintenance needs, including routine maintenance (oil changes, filter changes, hose inspections, etc.) and repairs.
• Ensure daily cleaning of equipment after use and proper documentation of repairs.
• Ensure and perform safe operations of vehicles, golf carts, trailers, and small tractors, following institutional safety protocols, including required PPE, chemical handling, and safe equipment operation.
• Establish work zones with cones, barricades, and proper signage to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety.
• Communicate water pooling and slip hazards to Grounds or EVS teams to maintain safe surfaces.
• Coordinate and assist crews with campus event setups, pressure washing, weed and pest control, irrigation and masonry repairs, and painting assignments.
• Follow all departmental and university policies, treating students, coworkers, supervisors, faculty, and visitors with respect.
• Attend campus event walkthroughs and setup meetings.
• Perform any other duties and assignments as instructed by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization.
• Three years of experience in ground maintenance, pressure washing, exterior cleaning, or a related field.
• Current driver’s license required to operate Augusta University golf carts and vehicles; must meet USG requirements to operate AU vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of pressure washing experience around a campus or large facility, with an understanding of chemicals and their impact on students, staff, and faculty.
• Involvement in Power Washers of North America (PWNA) or United Association of Mobile Contract Cleaners.
