Job Summary
Seeking a talented, self-motivated automotive electrical hardware engineer for the design engineering group focused on ADAS systems. Duties include supporting analog and digital circuit design through testing, analysis, and simulation. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting design activities for automotive control systems during quotation, development and mass production.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze and comprehend customer requirements and customer needs.
- Modify existing designs or create entirely new HW designs to realize the customer's desired operational and performance requirements.
- Use technical and engineering acumen to perform the necessary analysis, simulation and verification of analog and digital hardware and associated firmware.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, customers and vendors to discuss existing and potential new projects.
- Prepare block diagrams, detailed circuit schematics and manage the PCB layout of hardware concepts and final designs.
- Prepare and maintain various engineering documents to support production of existing and new products: Parts Lists, BoMs, IMDS, Design Notifications, Change Notifications.
- Support prototype builds for new & existing products.
- Develop and manage test specifications and their execution.
- Design and coordinate the fabrication and configuration of test equipment for hardware testing.
- Work with and support manufacturing teams to release hardware designs into production.
- Represent employer at customer meetings to explain or defend technical findings and technical recommendations.
- Aid/lead root cause analysis and corrective action for components and products.
- Prepare and present final reports for failure analysis activities to appropriate technicians and engineering personnel.
- Attend training to learn new tools and methodologies and keep up to date on market and technical trends.
- Work with other Astemo engineers to ensure program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and problems encountered during the development process are satisfactorily resolved.
Qualifications / Skills
- Embedded H/W design experience for automotive applications.
- Understanding of analog and digital hardware systems as applied to automotive control systems.
- Familiarity with EMC specifications and EMC mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity with EMC & Environmental automotive validation test flows.
- Understanding analysis methods and interpreting the results to convey this information to others.
- Experience creating worst case analysis.
- Previous use of MathCAD for WCAs is desired.
- Proficient in setting up and using laboratory test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzer, power analyzer, etc.
- Conduct investigative circuit analysis using device schematics of products and testing equipment.
- Familiarity with automotive SoCs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with communication protocols: CAN, LIN, RS-232, USB, SENT, Ethernet, MII, SERDES, PCIe.
- Use of Intrepid / Vector CAN toolchain is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and make electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or equivalent tool chain.
- Perform circuit analysis and simulation using SPICE based tools.
- Possess familiarity and understanding of programming in C or C++ to more effectively collaborate with SW team.
- Be able to coordinate program activities with team members at remote sites.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- English: fluent in written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction is required.
Education
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical and/or computer engineering.
Experience
Minimum of 7 years applicable experience in automotive ECU development.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Leading, instructing and mentoring the efforts of engineers who are responsible for sub-project activities.
