Lead Engineer- Modeling & Simulation

Responsibilities
- Develop physics-based modeling and simulation environment for a variety of electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems for distributed energy resources and power distribution
- Conduct product architecture trade studies and optimization to ensure maximized performance and minimal costs
- Integrate cost, weight, and specification data of components, systems, and renewable energy fuels into simulation models for technoeconomic analysis of architecture options
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to characterize components and systems in a simulation environment and communicate analysis results
- Utilize DOE, optimization methods, and data driven modeling and analysis tools
- Perform FEA or CFD simulations of critical components and structures to optimize robustness, cost, and guide product manufacturing
- Develop and oversee the implementation of modeling and simulation processes as critical milestones for development and validation of technologies and products within the Product Engineering organization
- Verify and validate controls software using models and simulation platforms
Requirements
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in systems simulation
- Knowledge of multi-physics modeling software such as Simulink, Simscape, Simcenter Amesim, GT Suite, or similar
- Experience with using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to develop models and conduct analysis
- Proficient in development and use of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), model-in-loop (MIL), and/or software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation platforms
- Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, power, or power distribution concepts including uninterrupted power supply, power converters, switchboards, and/or other power electronics
- Demonstrated implementation of real-world power generation and distribution problems into complex modeling and simulation platforms
- Demonstrated development and implementation of modular component models with scalable flexibility for various levels of simulation fidelity
Qualifications
- Experience with machine learning models generated from data a plus
- Experience with development of SIL, MIL, and HIL platforms for verification and validation of controls software
- Experience using multi-physics simulation software for systems, computational fluid dynamics software, or finite element analysis software for design
- Strong understanding of controls systems, particularly battery management, thermal system management, and energy management software and development and verification through use of simulation frameworks
- Experience using version control for modeling and simulation including Git or other similar tools
- PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering with demonstrated simulation experience, or demonstrated engineering research background
Skills
- Expertise in multi-physics modeling software such as Simulink, Simscape, Simcenter Amesim, GT Suite, or similar
- Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software
- Understanding of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, power, or power distribution concepts
- Ability to integrate cost, weight, and specification data of components, systems, and renewable energy fuels into simulation models

Schedule
This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.
Location
Must be onsite in Menasha, WI 3 days a week. Menasha, WI offers an excellent quality of life with a low cost of living, short commute times, and a strong sense of community.
