Lead Engineer (AWS Cloud, Search, or Distributed Systems)

About the role

Location: Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX – Onsite. Experience: 7+ years. Apple experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain highly scalable and reliable software solutions.
• Architect cloud-native applications and distributed services that meet performance, security, and availability requirements.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability through continuous monitoring and tuning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in large-scale environments.
• Implement best practices for software engineering, code quality, automation, and CI/CD.
• Participate in architecture reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Drive innovation through adoption of modern technologies and engineering practices.

• Search Platforms & Information Retrieval (OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, Apache Lucene)
• Big Data & Distributed Systems
• Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
• AWS Lambda
• AWS Step Functions
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
• Containerization and orchestration technologies
• Cloud-native architecture and microservices
• CI/CD and DevOps practices

Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and streaming platforms.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and logging frameworks.
• Experience building highly available and fault-tolerant systems.
• Cloud certifications or relevant technical certifications are a plus.
