Lead Engineer

This role requires associates to be in-office 1-2 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office. How You Will Make An Impact

• Maintains active relationships with customers to determine business requirements and leads requirements gathering meetings.
• Leads efforts with Web and marketing team to increase the presence of web products.
• Implements improvements in stability, performance, and scalability across major business-critical systems.
• Implements processes to reduce barriers and roadblocks in projects, services, and processes to operate more efficiently.
• Owns the change request process and coordinates with other teams as necessary.
• Develops and owns list of final enhancements.
• Develops and defines application scope and objectives and supervises the preparation of technical and/or functional specifications from which programs will be written.
• Performs technical design reviews and code reviews.
• Ensures unit test is completed and meets the test plan requirements, system testing is completed, and system is implemented according to plan.
• Responsible for delivery of application technology solutions and data information planning effort.
• Coordinates and manages on-call support and owns the system monitoring process.
• Owns the technical development environment and works on the Enterprise team.
• Leads multiple or large projects and facilitates large group JAD sessions for requirements, modeling in several disciplines.
• Leads vendor evaluation and analysis.
• Creates architectural solutions that articulate the business context, conceptual design, and component-level logical design.
• Recommends new technologies based upon business value drivers and return on investment.
• Drives new technologies towards implementation and exploitation.
• Works on infrastructure improvements for the application along with devops & development teams.
• Works with product owners, performance testing team, and dev leads to improve application performance and security.
• Establishes overall systems architecture vision and ensures specific components are appropriately designed and leveraged.
• Contributes to the holistic vision of Enterprise Architecture.
• Defines architecture standards and anticipates areas where architecture standards may need to be developed that are in-line with customer, IT, and industry standards.
• Directs the construction of architecture components (e.g., data architecture, application architecture, technical architecture).
• Works with business units to translate business strategy into discrete requirements compatible with current technical architectures.
• Defines systems, technical, and application architectures for new strategic initiatives.
• Develops and maintains an architectural blueprint and evolutionary roadmap that defines and communicates the strategic direction for these architectures in support of business and technical strategies.
• Explains how the roadmap maintains and delivers cost effectiveness, business value, and competitiveness.
• Estimates effort and cost for small to large initiatives.
• Creates MCP tools and AI agents for Agentic ecosystem using Node/Python.
• Builds API gateway and AI gateway.
• Builds AI-based systems such as chatbots & workflow automations.
• Identifies opportunities to leverage AI efficiently and securely and improve team productivity.
• Creates end-to-end solution architecture for small to large initiatives by collaborating with all necessary teams.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field of study.
• Minimum of 7 years of related experience; multi-platform and multi-dimensional experience required, as well as experience with business and technical applications.
• Any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background, is acceptable.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences

• Experience mentoring others and providing troubleshooting support is strongly preferred.
• Multi-database and/or multi-language experience strongly preferred.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect is preferred.
• Ability to produce physical architecture diagrams and recommend feasible improvements preferred.
• Ability to work with the dev team to create a good backlog of tech debt features to improve the application preferred.

Schedule

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.
