Lead Engineer

Responsible for the overall supervision of the engineering department within the assigned facility, including installation, repair, and maintenance of facility equipment. Oversees the physical plant—grounds, utility services, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, electronic equipment, yard, and pavement—to ensure safety and health for all.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and implement all preventive maintenance and repair operations at the facility.
• Schedule emergency repair activities based on priority and personnel abilities.
• Provide technical advice, instruction, and encouragement to subordinates on electric theory, mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and safety procedures.
• Perform equipment inspections and ensure proper maintenance in accordance with AES standards.
• Implement the quality assurance program for all department work.
• Direct or participate in facility programs and committees related to safety, disaster, fire, pollution control, and civil defense.
• Formulate, recommend, and implement site-specific policies and procedures to improve the facility’s physical plant and operations.
• Develop a plan for controlling, labeling, recording, and inspecting all capital and non-capital equipment, including a long-term engineering capital plan.
• Recommend equipment purchases to replace obsolete items and assist in long-range equipment replacement planning.
• Assist in developing and implementing operating and extraordinary expense budgets.
• Plan and schedule department services, establish work standards, and evaluate performance.
• Improve departmental efficiency and economy through strategic planning.
• Communicate policies, discuss job problems, and address employee concerns.
• Direct, train, evaluate, and counsel all engineering personnel.
• Enforce general safety and fire prevention regulations, promoting safe working habits.
• Ensure proper maintenance of shop equipment and adherence to safety standards.
• Promote good housekeeping principles and supervise housekeeping details.
• Operate building systems efficiently, focusing on utility consumption and environmental responsibility.
• Implement energy awareness and conservation programs within the facility.
• Champion energy conservation programs to maximize results from tenants and staff.
• Maintain an ongoing self-improvement program to stay updated on new equipment, standards, codes, and maintenance procedures.
• Support and follow Able Engineering Services’ operational policies and safety program.
• Collaborate with facility management on plant and tenant-related issues.
• Set and maintain a professional work environment, ensuring good communication and service standards.
• Develop departmental, staff, and personal goals while building morale and a team approach.
• Comply with employment laws and Able Engineering Services employment practices.
• Support growth opportunities and potential.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive operations experience preferred.
• Strong employee relations, coaching, and training skills.
• Highest-level relevant state/local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, plus universal-level refrigerant recovery license.
• Preferred certifications: High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat Certification, Indoor Air Quality Certification, LEED Certification.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Computer skills and building automation systems experience required.
• Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements as needed.
• Working knowledge of energy conservation; formal training preferred.

Pay

$70–$75 per hour, paid weekly.

Schedule

Day shift, approximately 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
