Lead Engagement Guide
The UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art is seeking a Lead Engagement Guide to support the museum's daily operations and ensure an exceptional visitor experience.
About the role
The Lead Engagement Guide plays a vital role in supporting the museum's operations while providing a welcoming and informative experience for visitors. This position is responsible for managing staff postings, coordinating break schedules, and facilitating smooth rotations between gallery and desk positions. Additionally, the role involves communicating daily updates to staff, maintaining consistent public messaging, and collaborating with various departments to support seamless operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage staff postings and break schedules
- Facilitate smooth rotations between gallery and desk positions
- Relay daily updates to staff to maintain consistent public messaging
- Collaborate with appropriate departments as needed to support seamless operations
- Greet and orient visitors at the front desk and in galleries
- Facilitate meaningful conversations around current and upcoming artists and exhibitions
- Highlight museum programs, tours, and special events
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Active listening and critical thinking skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
- Interpersonal and work leadership skills
- Knowledge and experience of hospitality and customer services best practices
- Strong interpersonal skills to ensure every visitor has a positive experience
- Interest and knowledge of art, art history, and/or museum collections and exhibitions
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years of relevant experience
Preferred
- Familiarity with museum policies, ticketing/POS systems, and daily operational workflows
- Experience in resolving visitor complaints, staff conflicts, and unexpected operational challenges
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, ADA accessibility standards, and cultural competency

- Undergraduate degree in art, history, or a related field
