Lead Electrician Project Engineer

Immediate opening for a full-time, experienced Marine Electrician Lead in the Seattle, WA area.

About the Role

Lead and actively participate in projects related to upgrading and developing new electrical systems for marine vessels and floating structures, including cargo ships, fishing vessels, barges, and tugs. Serve as the Electrician of Record (EoR), responsible for all assigned projects from the RFQ stage to final installation, testing, and compliance. Deliver high-quality projects on tight timelines that meet client specifications.

Projects include vessel shore power work, alternative marine power, mobile crane electrical supply, hydraulic systems, communication systems, terminal-wide power systems, gate systems, and other floating electrical projects. Work is often on-demand and onsite, both port-side and in deep water. Custom-built switchboard projects may include elevator control panels, emergency switchboards, gangway controllers, and nozzle heating pump controllers.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and operate electrical equipment and apparatus aboard commercial ships (e.g., tugboats, container ships, catcher-processors, barges).
• Adhere to shipyard experience, industry-standard safety protocols, and OSHA regulations.
• Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures.
• Apply intermediate to advanced electrical theory, including Ohm’s Law, basic load calculations, and circuit breaker/cable sizing.
• Interpret schematics and circuit diagrams.
• Work with 480VAC 3-phase distribution systems (grounded and ungrounded).
• Design, build, install, and troubleshoot motor controllers, electric motors, and motor circuits.
• Utilize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and soft starters.
• Convert between metric and standard measuring systems.
• Use multimeters and perform mathematical operations (multiplication, division, order of operations, fractions).

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience with electrical systems aboard commercial ships.
• Familiarity with 480VAC 3-phase systems, motor controllers, VFDs, and soft starters.
• Ability to read schematics, perform load calculations, and size cables/breakers.
• Proficiency in electrical theory, multimeter use, and metric/standard conversions.

Pay

Salary range: $90,000 – $130,000 per year.
