About the role
The Lead Electrical Engineer (Renewables) will provide support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for various utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects. They will assist with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Supports technical staff, engineers, and project managers with due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects.
- Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned material, installations, and construction specifications.
- Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhere to acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Aid in bid evaluation and project planning.
- Lead design teams from conceptual phase through completion and act as an Engineer-of-Record for large complex substation and gen-tie projects.
- Prepare technical proposals including scope, schedule, and budget.
- Act as a technical liaison with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Provide engineering support during construction including field inspections and witness tests.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Grow and manage relationships with alliance clients.
- Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.
- Lead technical specifications development for large EPC projects, including project scope, schedule, and estimates.
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
- Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.
- Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.
- Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, BS in Renewable Energy Engineering, BS in Civil Engineering, or BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
- Professional Engineering license (PE), or eligibility to obtain PE.
- Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and familiarity with IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Experience managing 3-5 people on a project team.
- Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Seven (7) or more years of experience in substation design.
