Lead Electrical Engineer - Power (Multiple Locations)

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in the listed office location. The Power Division specializes in the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage projects. We also work on other heavy industrial facilities such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. This role offers diverse project experiences, ranging from multi-discipline to electrical-only projects, covering engineered systems like electrical interconnects to the bulk power grid and all auxiliary electric power equipment.

About the Role

As a Senior Lead Electrical Engineer, you will lead project teams to create world-class designs for both new and retrofit projects. You will collaborate with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans to meet client requirements, industry standards, and budget constraints. The role involves working with a variety of electrical equipment, including generators, motors, solar photovoltaic panels, inverters, energy storage systems, transformers, switchgear, and more.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings.
• Design electrical components based on project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
• Apply strong knowledge of electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
• Utilize design software tools to perform engineering calculations and physical plant designs.
• Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations in support of project execution.
• Act as a field engineer on construction sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. A master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering experience, with EPC project experience strongly preferred.
• Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading electrical discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
• Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel (up to 25% of the time).
• Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Pay

$150,000.00 - $230,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
