Lead Electrical Engineer - Power (Multiple Locations)

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in the listed office location. The Power Division specializes in the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage, as well as other heavy industrial facilities like decarbonization, mining, and gas compression projects. This role offers diverse project experiences, ranging from multi-discipline to electrical-only projects, covering engineered systems such as electrical interconnects to the bulk power grid and all auxiliary electric power equipment within the facility.

About the Role

As a Senior Lead Electrical Engineer, you will lead project teams to create world-class designs for both new and retrofit projects. You will collaborate with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans to meet client requirements, industry standards, and budget constraints. The role involves working with a variety of electrical equipment, including rotating machines (generators and motors), solar photovoltaic panels, inverters, energy storage systems (batteries), large power transformers, circuit breakers, bus ducts, switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, station batteries, and UPS systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings.
• Design electrical components to meet project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
• Apply strong knowledge of electrical engineering and design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the industry.
• Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
• Utilize design software tools to perform engineering calculations and physical plant designs.
• Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations in support of project execution.
• Act as a field engineer on construction sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam may be accepted. A master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering experience, with EPC project experience strongly preferred.
• Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant design software tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading electrical discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
• Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Willingness to travel (up to 25% of the time).
• Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.

Pay

$150,000.00 - $230,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on factors such as individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
