Lead Electrical Engineer (Building Power Systems)

About the role

We are seeking experienced Electrical Engineers to support and advance our building electrical engineering practice. The Building Electrical Group is responsible for all building electrical systems including lighting, fire protection, and low voltage for food and beverage production facilities. The professional will have technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in designing electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities.
  • Take the lead in documenting all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, and raceway fills.
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs, and coordinate fixture placement/mounting with other trades.
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Design low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, and cameras.
  • Produce bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC’s, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS’s.
  • Manage the electrical bid process for clients, observe construction, and assist with startup.
  • Conduct project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Lead participation in and support department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance.
  • Research electrical building/power materials and best practices.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring new team members.
  • Handle complex issues and tasks with minimal supervision and advise subordinate team members on solutions to issues they encounter.
  • Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8+ years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit, or other related design programs.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred.
  • FE or PE license desirable.
  • Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25% - 35%.
