About the role
The Lead Electrical Engineer position supports Westwood’s Power Division, focusing on designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects. Key responsibilities include plant layout, system hardware selection, optimization, power generation and interconnection requirements determination, and leading the electrical engineering aspect of projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage electrical engineering of BESS projects, ensuring project budgets are met.
- Coordinate with project managers to respond to RFPs and prepare proposal scope and fee estimates.
- Oversee electrical team resources and perform calculations like short circuit analysis, load flow studies, grounding design, and voltage drop calculations.
- Collaborate with other project disciplines and coordinate with clients, utilities, system integrators, and code enforcement authorities.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of design work as the lead electrical engineer.
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior engineers, staff engineers, and design technicians.
- Support construction projects by responding to contractor and owner requests.
- Assist in marketing efforts and prepare materials related to BESS electrical engineering services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of NEC, NESC, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Proficiency with electrical power system modeling software.
- Approximately 4–10 years of experience in electrical engineering design.
- Working knowledge and ability to read and develop construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce detailed technical reports.
- Experience preparing proposals, managing project budgets, invoices, change orders, progress reporting, and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to use AutoCAD in a limited capacity.
