About the role

The Lead Electrical CAD Engineer is responsible for developing, releasing, and maintaining electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for mission-critical power and cooling products. This role ensures compliance with safety standards, regional regulations, and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for complex industrial systems using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical and/or Edge Electrical.
  • Design and document power distribution, protection, grounding, and control circuits supporting power distribution and cooling platforms.
  • Ensure electrical designs meet functional performance, safety, reliability, and serviceability requirements across operating conditions.
  • Resolve electrical packaging and integration challenges in coordination with mechanical layouts, thermal constraints, and enclosure architectures.
  • Execute configuration-controlled electrical designs supporting multiple product variants, options, and regional variations.
  • Maintain stability and traceability of electrical designs as engineering changes are introduced.
  • Implement engineering changes (ECR/ECNs) efficiently while preserving compliance, backward compatibility, and production continuity.
  • Ensure accurate synchronization between schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, and PLM system records throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Design electrical systems that comply with applicable IEC, UL, and regional standards, as well as customer-specific specifications.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to ensure electrical safety, fault protection, arc mitigation, grounding, and clearance/creepage requirements.
  • Support internal and external compliance activities by providing accurate documentation and responding to design-related findings.
  • Support prototype builds, production ramp-up, and manufacturing issue resolution through direct design updates and clarifications.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering to ensure electrical/mechanical fit, clearance, airflow, and thermal compatibility.
  • Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and production teams to address build issues, component substitutions, and all feedback.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and release readiness activities as a senior technical contributor.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of electrical CAD practices, documentation clarity, and configuration discipline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of hands-on electrical CAD design experience with industrial or infrastructure-class equipment.
  • Strong proficiency in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, and/or Edge Electrical.
  • Demonstrated experience designing power distribution and control systems for complex, multi-variant products.
  • Working knowledge of IEC, UL, and regional electrical compliance requirements.
  • Ability to independently execute and own complex electrical designs with minimal oversight.

Preferred Experience

  • Electrical design experience for power and cooling systems, switchgear, transformers, busway, PDCs, CDUs, chillers, or thermally-intensive infrastructure.
  • Experience with switchgear, control panels, and industrial power systems.
  • Proven background in panel layout, wire routing, and electrical/mechanical integration.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and formal product release and change control processes.
  • Experience supporting both NPI and sustaining engineering in production environments.

Core Competencies

  • Senior-level, hands-on electrical CAD execution.
  • Strong configuration and documentation discipline.
  • Deep understanding of electrical safety and compliance.
  • Cross-domain collaboration with mechanical and thermal engineering.
  • High attention to detail under fast-paced change conditions.
  • Independent technical ownership without managerial responsibility.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Paid time off accruing at a rate of 3.07 hours during the first year of employment.
  • 4 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • 11 company-paid holidays (9 fixed holidays and 2 optional floating holidays).
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Employee stock purchase plan.
