About the role

Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the Lead Driver is responsible for the direct transportation of Jordan Valley Health Senior Care participants to and from destinations. This position requires constant interaction with caregivers and community agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates with participants, families, staff, and other agencies and departments.
  • Drives a specially equipped van to transport physically limited persons to varied destinations.
  • Ensures wheelchair lifts and tie-down equipment are properly operated and participants are delivered to appointments in a timely manner.
  • Follows established schedules, adjusts for unanticipated changes, and determines the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes.
  • Assists participants on and off the van safely and courteously, handling medical equipment and emergencies as they arise.
  • Inspects the van and maintains it in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; reports maintenance needs.
  • Ensures all necessary program records are maintained according to policy.
  • Observes participants for changes in physical, mental, emotional, or social functioning and reports such changes to the licensed nurse; completes required documentation.
  • Assists in the coordination of 24-hour care delivery.
  • Conducts orientation and training of new drivers at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Attends scheduled driver and training meetings.
  • Monitors oxygen inventory for ordering.
  • Performs monthly vehicle checks for functionality and safety, recording findings in logbooks.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
  • Valid Class E driver’s license.
  • BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Defensive driving course required within 90 days of hire.
  • First aid course required within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
