Lead Diesel Technician

Responsibilities

  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair on diesel trucks or equipment
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Communicate with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
  • Supervise work of any apprentice diesel technicians as assigned
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure that customers' vehicles are kept clean; notify service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Keep shop area neat and clean for your safety and safety of other diesel technicians
  • Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals; return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management

Qualifications

  • Hard working attitude with willingness to put in the time and effort to learn the diesel technician trade
  • Work with senior technicians to obtain experience in multiple levels of diesel repairs
  • Online and instructor led training provided
  • High school diploma preferred or completion of vocational/technical school
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with 1 to 2 years experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain CDL license
  • Must have base required tools or obtain within 30 days (major tooling provided in house)
  • Safety shoes are required on day one of employment; employees must wear approved safety footwear at all times while working in designated shop and service areas
  • Background screening is a mandatory prerequisite for employment consideration
