Essential Position Responsibilities
- Directs the activities of other hourly diesel mechanics.
- Ensures mechanics follow company policies, use time clock correctly, and perform other duties as instructed.
- Works with supervisor to keep informed of shop and production progress.
- Performs tire work and light maintenance on Company fleet vehicles.
- Reads hydraulic pressure gauges, replaces hoses, couplers, and pumps, and makes necessary repairs.
- Performs basic welding and identifies tools and parts needed for Company vehicles.
- Understands suction and discharge pressures, charge units, and refrigeration components.
- Finds and repairs freon leaks.
- Diagnostics and repairs company equipment requiring service, including forklifts, trailers, company pickup trucks, etc.
Team Participation
- Participates as a member of the Team.
- Communicates and implements Team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
- Attends appropriate Team meetings.
- Identifies and resolves issues affecting cohesiveness within the Team.
- Supports the Team in achieving synergy within the larger organization.
Operating Systems Principles and Objectives
- Familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
- Maintains familiarity with systems and role in supporting them.
- Communicates concerns and improvement ideas related to system impacts.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Physical Activities
- Efficiently works in a garage environment.
- Regularly stands, reaches, and moves about the facility.
- Varies levels of physical effort required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Uses appropriate footwear, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, and other protective equipment as needed or required.
Technical Experience
- Must be proficient in previous level’s requirements.
- Excellence in working with all components on all trucks, trailers, loaders, light duty vehicles, and farm machinery.
- Certification from a Vo-tech or trade school is a plus.
- Must have the following tools: all tools listed in previous levels, plus all specialty tools for engine overhauls and newer equipment.
Industry Experience
- Preference for poultry or food processing organizations.

- Demonstrates ability to complete work independently and in a team with limited supervision.
- Communicates effectively and makes good decisions.
