Lead Diesel Mechanic

About the role

Lead Diesel Mechanic responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on diesel and gas automotive engines, heavy and light construction equipment, material-handling machinery, and various lawn care equipment. Ensures all vehicles and equipment remain in full compliance with OEM requirements and are properly equipped to perform their intended functions safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand operators, maintenance service, and parts manuals to determine repair needs and procedures to order correct repair parts.
• Read electrical, air, and hydraulic schematics and perform troubleshooting measures.
• Utilize the latest electronic troubleshooting and testing equipment to diagnose and repair computer-controlled systems on automotive and construction equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs to crawler/tracked equipment systems, including adjusting, repairing, or replacing track assemblies, steering clutches, and other components.
• Complete forms and maintain manual and computerized records; enter data into terminal or keyboard devices.
• Obtain and maintain a Mobile Air Conditioning Systems (MACS) 609 certification card for the use of mobile Freon gases.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience in the automotive/construction industry.
• Specialized training course from an established and accredited institution in the Automotive Technology Field is highly recommended; additional experience in automotive and/or diesel mechanical repair work at the journeyman level is preferred.
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license; Class A or B CDL is highly desirable.
• Certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or other recognized certification in at least one of the following areas is highly desirable: brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, air conditioning and heating, automotive electrical, and drive train systems. ASE certification is highly encouraged if not already obtained.
• Must possess personal tools in a lockable toolbox of sufficient size; a complete list of recommended tools will be provided upon hire. Large pneumatic and electrical tools and equipment will be provided.
• Must pass pre-employment checks including drug and alcohol screenings, motor vehicle record check, and criminal background check.
• Must submit to random drug and alcohol screenings.

Skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Proficiency in using electronic troubleshooting and testing equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude for repairing and maintaining diesel and gas engines, construction equipment, and material-handling machinery.
• Basic mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
• Attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
