Lead DevOps Engineer

About the role

The Mission Applications (MA) Group within STR’s Analytics and Command & Control (AC2) Division creates outsized mission impact by applying specialized technology solutions for national security customers. Staff in the MA group combine deep mission expertise with software engineering, product management, and mission engineering skills to transition advanced technologies into operational use. As a DevOps Engineer, you will lead software teams in designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure and tooling to deploy mission-critical software at high standards of quality, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead software teams to design, develop, and maintain infrastructure and tooling for operational software deployments.
• Manage relationships with customer environments while ensuring delivered products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance.
• Design and implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for unique deployment environments as part of tightly knit Agile teams.
• Support cloud toolsets (e.g., AWS) in unclassified environments.
• Configure and maintain multiple CI/CD environments at different classification levels, focusing on developer productivity, application performance, security monitoring, and alerting.
• Liaise with corporate IT to ensure team infrastructure toolsets are configured, maintained, reliable, and compliant with Department of Defense standards.
• Coach team members on DevOps best practices and continuously improve processes.
• Work in STR’s flexible, hybrid environment with an expectation to spend 2–3 days per week on-site at STR or US Government facilities to support applications deployed on classified operational networks.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship.
• Active U.S. Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant work experience.

Qualifications

• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab) and pipeline automation.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and automated provisioning tools (Ansible or Chef).
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Podman) and Kubernetes management solutions (EKS, Rancher).
• Experience deploying and monitoring Kubernetes clusters and pod configurations.
• Basic knowledge of Linux system administration.
• Knowledge of Python and Linux shell scripting.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated experience communicating effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to relocate to San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; Arlington, VA; or Boston, MA.

• Active security clearance at the Top Secret level.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with the full web-service stack, including databases, logging, and monitoring.
• Experience with project tracking tools such as Jira.
• Experience designing, deploying, and monitoring Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience with GitOps tools (ArgoCD, Flux).
• Experience deploying and maintaining artifact repositories (Nexus, Artifactory).
• Experience deploying and configuring static and dynamic code analysis tools (SonarQube, Coverity).
• Experience with platforms such as ArgoCD, Flux, or Terraform.
• Leadership experience in an Agile/SCRUM software development process.
• Current Security+ Certification.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $175,000 – $240,000. Offers are based on factors including experience, education, training, key skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
