LEAD CYTOTECHNOLOGIST

About the role

This role involves preparing and processing cytology specimens, examining cells for abnormalities, overseeing department processes, and providing technical support to pathologists.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes cytology specimens to ensure cellular retrieval and specimen integrity.
• Coordinates multiple tasks to produce high-quality slides within minimum turnaround times.
• Screens gynecological and non-gynecological smears, reports findings, and ensures timely referral of abnormal cases.
• Interprets slides, correlates findings with patient history, and determines appropriate course of action.
• Maintains and troubleshoots the Cytyc imager system, ensuring error rates are below 7%.
• Participates in quality control and management activities, adhering to regulatory guidelines.
• Communicates with healthcare providers and pathologists to ensure accurate and timely delivery of results.
• Facilitates the timely progression of cytology cases through the Pathology department.
• Assists in the development and implementation of new protocols and workflow improvements.

Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, three (3) years’ experience as a Cytologist, strong leadership and organizational skills, and a registered Cytologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in using pathology software and HIS/LIS systems.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions based on complex data.
• Experience with cytology equipment and techniques.
