Lead Custodian

Position Summary

In this position, you will function as a team lead and perform various routine and non-routine custodial/housekeeping work requiring moderate physical strength. In addition, you will be responsible for:

• conducting on-the-job training for custodians.
• requisitioning and distributing supplies and materials.
• relaying instructions from the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor.
• determining the need for special project work to be performed.
• performing simple operation of basic mechanical maintenance on cleaning equipment while adhering to all safety procedures.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $18.00 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12 month probationary period is required.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All applicants will be required to provide a minimum of 2 supervisory references including current or most recent place of work.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

• Experience with custodial or housekeeping work including cleaning and sanitizing.
• Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekend, holiday, early mornings or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle described above.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

• Experience maintaining powered cleaning equipment which includes lubricating automatic scrubbers, adjusting and changing pads, installing or replacing filters, checking battery electrolyte level, and cleaning outside surfaces.
• Experience providing customer service to internal and external partners (e.g., responding to inquiries, explaining policies and procedures, resolving issues, etc.) by phone, email, or in person.
• Experience with safety precautions including the use of toxic chemicals, PPE, caution signage, etc.
• Training or experience using Microsoft Outlook for email communications.
