About the role
The Lead Custodian monitors and coordinates the activities of the early morning, evening and night shift custodians. This position reports to the Facilities Services Supervisor and the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events.
Responsibilities
- Verify that all areas of the assigned campus buildings are adequately staffed daily to accomplish all assigned tasks.
- Work with Facilities Services Supervisor and/or the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events to ensure adequate staffing for crews to perform all assigned duties.
- Refer requests for absence/vacation and/or time off to Facilities Services Supervisor for approval.
- Maintain custodial supply inventory and request supplies, tools and parts as required and forward to Facilities Services Supervisor for order placement.
- Ensure all inventory is kept properly secured in a neat and orderly manner.
- Coordinate extra cleaning/setups as required with Facilities Services Supervisor due to special needs.
- Regularly perform assigned cleaning tasks and as required, be prepared to make up for missing staff members, unusual conditions, and emergencies.
- Handle all emergency situations during the shift to minimize damage to buildings and contents and ensure security of the campus.
- Inform Facilities Services Supervisor and/or the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events immediately of any emergency.
- Meet with Facilities Services Supervisor daily, and the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events as needed to review progress, discuss problems, etc.
- Provide written reports as required.
- Perform minor repair/maintenance on cleaning equipment as required.
- Identify and report maintenance problems on campus to the Facilities Services Supervisor and enter a work order request.
- Member of the Sugar Grove Campus Snow Crew assigned to coordinate snow and ice removal for access roads, and sidewalks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Facilities Services Supervisor and/or Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Three years successful employment in a custodial position.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Ability to make related decisions without immediate supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Ability to individually lift 35 pounds.
- Ability to perform frequent walking, standing, lifting, bending, and kneeling.
- Bilingual Spanish/English desired.
