Custodian Lead - 2nd Shift

About the role

The Custodian (First, Second and Third Shift) is responsible for cleaning and caring for all LU Facilities, on and off campus. The Custodian is to maintain, provide and assure an aesthetically pleasing, clean, sanitary and safe environment in a variety of spaces including lobbies, hallways, dorms, bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, classrooms, offices, food service areas, and other public event areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of all bathroom facilities, including floors, toilets, walls, partitions, sinks and showers.
• Use brooms, mop, buckets, vacuum cleaners and other related cleaning equipment.
• Perform daily cleaning of all interior facility spaces, such as offices, halls, classrooms, labs, food service areas, and common areas.
• Collect trash and recyclable materials from all facilities, for collection, removal and disposal.
• Support and assist with established recycling efforts.
• Report any unsafe conditions or incidents of suspicious activity or persons.
• Report any maintenance repair issues to appropriate area supervisor.
• Monitor lobbies, floors, and restrooms during events; ensuring the highest level of cleanliness, patron satisfaction and event success.
• As Essential Personnel, a Custodian I is expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents.
• Attend and complete required safety training per university requirements.
• Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
• Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED required.
• Minimum of 1+ years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid state driver’s license and insurable with the company’s agent.
• Well‑developed communication skills.
• Experience with residential, and/or commercial/industrial cleaning (methods and safety) preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow directions and work under limited supervision.
• Ability to work well with the public and co‑workers, presenting a positive attitude, clean and professional appearance.
• Courteous, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and trustworthy.
• Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform custodial duties in typical Virginia climate.
