About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Behavioral Health Services, the Lead Counselor for Gambling Services will provide counseling services to adults and children experiencing gambling-related behavioral and emotional difficulties. Services may be delivered in individual, group, or family settings using a team-focused treatment plan approach. This role includes clinical consultation and training supervision for staff developing gambling treatment competency, supporting problem gambling service integration within a multidisciplinary team, and leading grant-funded treatment and prevention initiatives.

The Lead Counselor serves as a community-facing subject matter resource, supporting training, community education, and strengthening referral pathways while integrating problem gambling into broader programming.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, or family therapy for adults and children.
  • Engage in supervision with the Behavioral Health Manager.
  • Assist clients in preparing and presenting treatment program materials.
  • Maintain client charting in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH, CARF, and professional standards.
  • Meet productivity expectations, including weekly client visits and service hours (including training supervision, consultation, and community partnership events).
  • Prepare documentation for discharge and aftercare referrals.
  • Assist in community outreach and safeguard client welfare.
  • Consult with supervisors on ethical and legal aspects of the organization.
  • Perform telehealth services as required.
  • Complete all productivity and documentation requirements.
  • Provide monthly group and individual clinical consultation, training supervision, and clinical direction to 20+ clinicians across all Signature Health locations for evidence-informed screening, assessment, referral, and treatment.
  • Conduct screenings, assessments, and therapy; manage referrals, waitlists, and outcomes reporting.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate training, community education, and treatment initiatives based on agency and community needs.
  • Represent Signature Health in coalitions and partnerships; build relationships with schools, jails, and community organizations to broaden prevention and treatment reach.
  • Collaborate on outreach strategies (press releases, brochures, mailings, speaking engagements) to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Support grant-funded treatment programming, ensuring deliverables, compliance, reporting timelines, and budget adherence; identify and support new funding opportunities.
  • Support grant writing, data collection, reporting accuracy, and budget performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Valid unencumbered LISW-S, LPCC-S, LIMFT-S, or LICDC-CS License in Ohio.
  • Valid unencumbered Ohio driver’s license and proof of driver’s insurance.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in treating gambling, mental health, and substance use disorders within individual, group, couples, and family systems therapy.
  • Gambling Trained status or higher required.
  • Experience collaborating with team members to optimize client outcomes.
  • Familiarity with state and federal healthcare regulations.
  • Awareness of community and state support resources for the population served.
  • Public speaking or training experience preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
  • Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
  • Hearing: Adequate to hear clients in person, over the telephone, or through telehealth technology.
  • Speaking: Adequate to speak to clients in person, over the telephone, or through telehealth technology.
  • Vision: Adequate to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Physical effort: Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 15 pounds unassisted.
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting; some lifting, pushing, and pulling may be required.
  • Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
