Lead Cost Analyst

About the role

The Lead Cost Analyst will conduct and oversee cost analysis activities, directing and assisting with estimates of initial and ongoing cost of products and projects. Identify plant and cost department problems and will develop and implement improvement solutions. The Lead Cost Analyst will work with plant management to determine and resolve plant processes, take a leadership role on plant teams, and participate in plant and cost department projects. The Lead Cost Analyst will have a thorough knowledge of cost systems and will perform analysis of cost data to prevent and resolve production and inventory issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
• Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Conducts market research to recommend changes to pricing or business models.
• Prepares periodic cost reconciliation reports, tracking data such as changing labor and supply costs.
• Develops and maintains accurate Bills of Materials for each model and each Option produced in their plant by:
  • Prototyping of new models and options
  • Re-audits of existing models and options
  • Category Audits
  • Like model comparisons
• Observes established costing policies and procedures.
• Completes training programs as provided.
• Participates in Oracle ERP implementation initiatives.
• Prints the Daily Production Report, distributes, and reviews for margin irregularities.
• Monitors the Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and responds to all necessary ECRs immediately, including providing cost impact to the ECN if necessary.
• Provides cost where applicable for Sales Change and responds to all applicable Sales Change Requests (SCRs) immediately, including reviewing the applicable Production Work Orders (PWO) to ensure correct cost details are provided.
• Attends daily and/or weekly staff & order read meetings, communicating Damaged Material Report (DMR) issues, discrepancy issues from audits, inventory preparation, plant material issues, etc.
• Modifies any BOMs as required by authorized ECRs immediately and communicates necessary changes with the plant buyer and plant management to ensure inventory is relieved properly.
• Provides cost details for any necessary options or projects as required.
• Audits one ceiling per week for foam seal usage, calculates the cost per LF, and reports results to the appropriate personnel.
• Attends required plant meetings (e.g., employee meetings, quality team meetings, etc.).
• Audits at least one model and 12 options per month—Prototypes and/or Re-Audits.
• Costs any necessary options that may be required for a Prototype BOM due to urgency in developing pricing information or setting up information for purchasing.
• Reviews ECRs for start dates.
• Re-yards homes to record true or revised costs if changes to base units or options are needed after they come offline but before month-end closing.
• Keys damaged materials reported (DMR) by the plant into the system, investigates unusual reported quantities, and forwards to the plant buyer.
• Reviews changes made to the base BOM during the month (Detailed BOM Analysis report from the Plant accountant) and justifies any changes with a cost impact of +/- $10.00.
• At month-end, reviews the ECR file to ensure ECRs approved for the plant during the month have been incorporated into the Bills of Material and options, when applicable.
• Prepares facility for physical inventory and is directly involved in conducting physical inventory.
• Reviews and reconciles physical inventory, counts work in process material, and prepares the official report.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Four-year degree in a business-related field—highly desired.
• Three to five years of experience in costing in a manufacturing environment—preferred.
• Excellent mathematical skills.
• Great attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Motivated to pursue improvement.
• Demonstrates initiative and assertiveness.
• Able to communicate positively and clearly with peers, managers, and internal customers.
• Expert knowledge in MS Office software, including Excel.
• Knowledge of Oracle ERP systems—preferred.

Pay

$82,000 base salary.
