About the role
This position will be working with the Jefferson County Office of the Aging meals program. The Lead Cook is responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing a variety of food items in accordance with assigned work instructions, menus and guidelines while following food safety and food handling procedures.
Responsibilities
- Refers to Daily Prep List at the start of each shift for assigned duties and completes opening and closing checklists daily.
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Safely uses a variety of kitchen utensils including knives and other items.
- Must be comfortable using and operating a variety of equipment including ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
- Knows and complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, recipes, policies, and procedures.
- Handles, stores, labels, and rotates all products properly and in accordance with applicable state laws.
- Fulfills assigned station duties according to assigned instructions.
- Prepares ingredients and follows assigned recipes.
- Multi-tasks in a high-volume kitchen environment.
- Handles hot and cold work conditions during food preparation.
- Performs physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods of time.
- Stands and works on their feet for much of the scheduled shift.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience.
- At least 18 years of age.
- At least one (1) year of relevant cooking experience required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Prior experience cooking or kitchen experience in a cafeteria or large volume production facility a plus.
- Experience with safety procedures as typical in a cafeteria or food service environment.
