Lead Commissioning Engineer
About the role
Nexamp is seeking a Lead Commissioning Engineer to join its Clean Energy Deployment team. This role involves ensuring Nexamp projects are safely and reliably energized on schedule, from pre-energization through project operational turnover.
Responsibilities
- Independently leading the commissioning of PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) from pre-energization through project operational turnover.
- Acting as a primary troubleshooting resource for the Commissioning Engineering and Field Commissioning teams, providing expert level support on common electrical, protection, and SCADA/communications issues surfaced during commissioning and early operations.
- Managing project commissioning schedules in partnership with Deployment, SCADA, Engineering, and external contractors, ensuring that inverter, DAS, SCADA, BESS, and protection system commissioning stays aligned with construction and interconnection milestones.
- Providing remote support and occasional field support for DAS, inverter, BESS and SCADA commissioning as well as witness tests.
- Reviewing and validating site performance of assets once live, including managing or executing performance testing and identifying and troubleshooting underperformance.
- Leading Data Acquisition System (DAS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system design for PV, BESS, and hybrid PV+BESS (DC- and AC-coupled) projects, including interpreting market, utility, and ISO SCADA/telemetry and controls requirements and coordinating the procurement and installation of required telecom, hardware, and software infrastructure.
- Aid in the development of SCADA engineering standards for utility scale applications.
- Mentor and train junior commissioning team members and field technicians to increase their capabilities.
- Support continuous improvement of networking equipment, products, and quality assurance processes by conducting research, contributing to commissioning best-practices documentation, and actively sharing experience and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent education/certification background.
- At least 7 years of experience designing and commissioning electrical power systems, or network design.
- At least 4 years of experience in renewables such as Solar, Wind, and Storage, Experience in controls engineering for utility-scale renewable/hybrid energy, PV/BESS, (AC-coupled/DC-coupled systems) preferred.
- Knowledge of inverter parameter setting procedures.
- Knowledge and experience with technical communications protocols (Modbus/TCP, DNP3.0, etc.), commonly used controls software/hardware platforms, and communication standards (MESA, Sunspec, etc.).
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience with various relays, meters, SCADA Gateways, and Data Concentrators, experience with programming of RTACs, preferred.
- Expertise in commissioning and resolving site technical issues, proven success in independently troubleshooting challenging SCADA related technical issues.
- MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software proficiency.
- Knowledge of industry standard design codes and electrical engineering and relaying principles.

Pay
The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $140,000 - $155,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). Additionally, you may be eligible to participate in the Company’s stock option plan. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, skills and qualifications, internal equity, performance, and geographic location.
