Lead Client Safety Navigator - 890 Residential Services

About the role
Men’s Residential and Detox or 890 Residential Services is a program of HealthRIGHT 360 that serves male-identifying clients. This program has approximately 105 beds and provides residential treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) for up to 90 days. Clients are supported by a team of behavioral health professionals who provide counseling, education, individual and group therapy, and life skills training.
The Lead Client Safety Navigator (Lead CSN) serves as the senior Client Safety Navigator during assigned shifts and functions as the operational lead for the Client Safety Navigator team. This position remains a working Client Safety Navigator while providing guidance, mentorship, and operational support to peers. The Lead CSN promotes consistency and completeness in safety practices, documentation, communication, and client accountability. This position does not supervise staff and does not have responsibility for disciplinary actions or performance evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Shift Operations & Team Support
- Serve as the designated shift lead for Client Safety Navigators during shifts when the Operations Manager is not on site, while continuing to perform all standard Client Safety Navigator duties.
- Coordinate daily workflow and task assignments with the Operations Manager and leadership team to ensure safety and operational priorities are addressed throughout the shift.
- Provide operational guidance, peer support, and assistance to Client Safety Navigators throughout the shift.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for routine operational questions and problem-solving, escalating matters to leadership as appropriate.
- Promote consistency in the implementation of program policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
- Notify leadership when assigned tasks are not completed, safety concerns arise, staffing shortages occur, or additional employee support is needed.
- Elevate client incidents, facility concerns, policy-related issues, and emergency situations to the appropriate on-duty leadership and complete required documentation.
- Communicate staffing concerns and coverage needs to leadership and assist with shift coordination.
- Provide detailed shift pass-downs regarding client concerns, facility issues, staffing matters, and operational updates.
- Safety & Security
- Promote a safe, orderly, respectful, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
- Conduct hourly safety rounds of client rooms, offices, common areas, entrances, exits, and the building perimeter.
- Review hourly safety checks for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program expectations; provide peer guidance when documentation or assigned tasks are incomplete or inaccurate and communicate significant discrepancies to leadership.
- Assist with emergency response, including medical emergencies, behavioral crises, overdoses, AWOLs, contraband discoveries, and fire or evacuation procedures.
- Maintain proficiency in CPR, First Aid, and Narcan administration.
- Assist with facility emergency drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Monitor safety equipment, including radios, Narcan, keys, flashlights, and emergency supplies, and promptly report deficiencies to leadership.
- Crisis Intervention & Emergency Response
- Carry Narcan, recognize signs of opioid overdose, and administer Narcan as necessary in accordance with training, policy, and applicable requirements.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and maintain calm, professional, and non-confrontational behavior during observation, intervention, and crisis situations.
- Support staff during emergency and crisis situations and communicate relevant information to on-duty leadership.
- Administrative & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain positive, respectful, professional, and non-confrontational interactions with clients, staff, visitors, and other stakeholders.
- Attend and actively participate in required meetings.
- Participate in and complete all assigned training.
- Assist with the onboarding and orientation of newly hired Client Safety Navigators and provide training and mentoring support to new and existing CSNs.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with agency standards, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable funding and regulatory requirements.
- Review facility logs, safety documentation, visitor logs, and shift reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist in ensuring incident reports are completed accurately and submitted promptly to leadership.
- Communicate operational issues, client concerns, documentation concerns, and facility needs to leadership.
- Promote documentation standards and assist peers in understanding required documentation procedures.
- Identify documentation trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement and communicate findings to leadership.
- Guidance & Mentorship
- Support the orientation and onboarding of newly hired Client Safety Navigators.
- Provide ongoing peer-to-peer guidance, mentorship, and operational support regarding policies, procedures, safety practices, and best practices.
- Demonstrate proper safety procedures, emergency response protocols, documentation practices, and client engagement techniques.
- Reinforce new program initiatives, operational changes, and updated procedures.
- Model professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and customer service expectations.
- Assist leadership with skills-based competencies, refresher training, and other training activities as assigned.
- Positively influence peers by modeling professional behavior, providing guidance, and promoting accountability without formal supervisory authority.
- Provide task direction and operational guidance during assigned shifts but does not have authority to hire, discipline, conduct performance evaluations, approve leave, or independently modify program policies or procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- Experience counseling or teaching adults and/or facilitating workshops.
- 3 years of job-related experience working or “lived experience” with the criminal justice population or with the community behavioral health system, or 2 years of CSN experience in HealthRIGHT 360.
- Knowledge of San Francisco community behavioral health and public health systems.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications.
- Willingness to work with clients in the community.
- Ability to respond quickly and use good judgment in unusual and emergency situations.
- Good attention to detail.
- Must complete a background check and Live Scan.
