Job Summary
Aid management with store operations by performing clerk duties in designated departments (grocery or freight), leading by example, and assisting department managers in general department operations as directed. Answer customer questions and complaints in a professional manner and ensure all customers receive fast, friendly service. Perform duties of a grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker, and assist assigned employees in their tasks as appropriate, including notifying them of breaks and lunches.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains and encourages a friendly, enthusiastic customer service atmosphere with an emphasis on taking care of the customer.
- Welcomes, engages, serves, and thanks customers.
- Performs duties of a clerk in designated department (grocery or freight).
- Handles customer complaints and requests, approves checks, sells gift certificates, issues refunds, receives returned check payments, and answers customer questions.
- Maintains cleanliness and eye-appeal of work area, storage area, equipment, and retail displays.
- Monitors arrivals, breaks, lunches, and departures of employees in area of responsibility.
- Communicates with supervisor regularly and assists as needed or directed.
- Assists clerks by providing direction and leadership, demonstrating and performing clerk responsibilities and assigned tasks, and answering employee questions.
- May monitor cashier money handling procedures and assists with scan system procedures (e.g., UPC codes not on file, scan pricing errors).
- Maintains a constant awareness of customer and employee safety.
- Stocks and rotates merchandise in any area of the store as needed.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Clear communication, excellent verbal and written skills, interpersonal skills, leadership, multi-tasking, visual inspections, reading reports, computer printouts, register and computer screens, basic math, food handlers certification, proper use of cleaning chemicals, and understanding state and federal regulations.
- Age: At least 21 years old in Montana and Oregon, 21+ years old in all other states.
- Additional Requirements: Must be able to perform duties with mental alertness involving potential hazards, reach, lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently, understand state & federal regulations if certification is needed, and perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
