Lead Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Veterans Care Specialist / Part-Time, Day Shift

Location: Bemidji, MN

Part-time, unlimited position with a work schedule of at least 48 hours per 2-week pay period. Day shift: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., including weekends as assigned.

About the role

We are seeking a Veterans Care Specialist to serve as an advanced care team member, providing leadership and mentorship to Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)-Human Services Technician (HST) employees at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Bemidji. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, training, oversight, and mentoring to current and new CNA-HST employees to enhance their competencies and resident services.
  • Independently administer medications and/or treatments as prescribed to residents.
  • Participate and provide input in team meetings and in the development and implementation of care plans for residents.
  • Measure targeted goals for residents, households, groups, and individualized projects as assigned.
  • Analyze data to assess resident interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an educational curriculum for staff.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Nursing Assistant with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Nursing Assistant Registry.
  • Certified as a Trained Medication Aide (TMA).
  • One year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and/or Human Services Technician (HST) or providing direct care for others.
  • Human relations, communications, and leadership skills sufficient to effectively lead, guide, and educate others.
  • Knowledge and skills in two or more of the following areas: dementia, restorative care, patient care planning for hospice and palliative care, aging/geriatric services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience as a CNA/HST in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Knowledge and skills in three or more of the following areas: dementia, restorative care, patient care planning for hospice and palliative care, aging/geriatric services.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations guiding skilled nursing facility/nursing home operations.
  • Experience working with Veterans.
  • Experience as a lead worker or mentor to others.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists, including a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with former employer(s).

Pay

$23.95 - $31.43 per hour.
