About the role

The Lead Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM) supports the Family Medicine department. This role involves administering care management, coordinating activities, providing direct patient care, assisting providers with procedures, and supporting the Practice Supervisor and Medical Director.

Responsibilities

• Administers vaccinations and intramuscular/subcutaneous injections as directed by physician, following state regulations.
• Prepares exam rooms and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment for tests and procedures.
• Takes patient histories, chief complaints, vitals, and performs diagnostic tests.
• Aids in minor surgical procedures and wound care.
• Documents clinical information in the chart or EMR system.
• Assists with laboratory tests, vision and hearing screenings, phlebotomy, allergy screening, and other administrative tasks.
• Serves as a trainer for CMA staff and a backup for the Practice Supervisor.
• Maintains and cleans office equipment, organizes exam rooms, and handles patient care coordination.
• Handles patient inquiries, insurance verification, and billing.
• Coordinates patient care services at other facilities and handles prescription requests.
• Supports the orientation and training of new employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Certification from a recognized certifying body (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two years of previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
• Knowledge of pediatric vaccine administration and pediatric triage (preferred for those in Pediatrics).
• Familiarity with EPIC (preferred).
