About the Role

The Lead Cashier, under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager, ensures efficient and prompt processing of all customer transactions while maintaining proper controls of cash and paper transactions. This position supervises Cashiers in conjunction with the Gift Shop Manager and ensures outstanding customer service per company standards. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Meets, greets, and assists the public in selecting gifts and merchandise.
  • Maintains and records daily sales on the cash register.
  • Evaluates and purchases weekly beverage, snack, amenities, and tobacco products.
  • Monitors and maintains hotel soda and Superior Room cigarette vending machines.
  • Maintains inventory of special-order items.
  • Checks in orders and matches all items to the PO and Packing Slip.
  • Supervises Cashiers alongside the Gift Shop Manager and assists with staff scheduling as needed.
  • Trains newly hired Cashiers on company procedures, cash handling, and policies.
  • Manages store operations in the absence of the Gift Shop Manager.
  • Ensures cashiers follow accounting policies, safety procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Resolves team conflicts daily and assists the Gift Shop Manager in disciplinary actions.
  • Informs Surveillance and Manager of suspicious financial or shop-related activities.
  • Ensures company security procedures are followed to deter theft, shoplifting, and robbery.
  • Assists with daily business duties, including stocking, rotating merchandise, pricing, sorting used playing cards, and folding/hanging clothing.
  • Reconciles register drawer and verifies totals against cash, receipts, credit cards, vouchers, and debits.
  • Checks vendor deliveries, prices products, and stocks shelves and coolers.
  • Performs general cleaning duties, including cashier area, cooler, shelving, sales floor, and storage areas.
  • Keeps all products clean, organized, and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Checks identification for tobacco and alcohol purchases to comply with Tribal and State law.
  • Changes displays regularly based on buying audience and season.
  • Assists in the interview process for new employees.
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and yearly inventory counts.
  • Verifies vendor coupons, gaming vouchers, promo gift certificates, and employee gift certificates.
  • Answers phones, takes messages, and processes orders as needed.
  • Compiles and processes weekly and monthly invoices as requested.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous retail cashier experience or equivalent college education in retail or bookkeeping/accounting.
  • Previous convenience store work experience preferred.
  • Experience with software systems such as Infogenesis, Eatec, etc., preferred.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong public relations and customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Ability to creatively resolve customer complaints and disputes among cashiers.
  • Quick decision-making skills that satisfy customers and benefit the company.
  • Ability to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisory personnel, coworkers, subordinates, and the public.
  • Ability to provide attentive, cheerful, courteous, and professional service to all customers.
  • Availability to work different shifts and extra hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment and handle difficult situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Position involves medium physical demands with lifting of up to 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying of up to 25 pounds.
  • Constant standing, walking, reaching, and manual handling.
  • Use of hearing, smell, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, and color/field of vision.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, and crawling.
  • Constant exposure to extreme weather, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet/humidity, noise, and air quality.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration.
  • Constant exposure to high places and chemicals.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and computer/equipment use.
  • Constant equipment use.

Native American preferred.
