Lead Carpenter

About the role

Performs skilled carpentry work involving the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of buildings, structures, and fixtures. Responsible for rough and finish carpentry, including repairing and installing doors, locks, hardware, cabinetry, framing, flooring, ceilings, and trim. Performs general building maintenance and repairs, such as roof patching, drywall repair, and other facility-related maintenance tasks. Ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and organizational standards while supporting the overall upkeep and functionality of facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform general carpentry work, including building, installing, repairing, and maintaining structures, furniture, doors, windows, etc.
• Operate associated power and hand tools and equipment.
• Complete jobs within stipulated time and budget while ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Prepare schedules for work completion and contribute to increasing profitability.
• Uphold the reputation of the organization by producing high-quality work.
• Train new carpenters and carpenter trainees.
• Track ongoing projects and evaluate employee performance.
• Interact with customers and demonstrate strong customer service skills.
• Lead a team of carpenters and assign duties based on skills.
• Document work progress and report to the project manager.
• Build and install door and window framings; install locks, door knobs, and other hardware.
• Repair and maintain doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and building exteriors/interiors.
• Build, repair, and refinish wood furniture and fixtures, including cabinets, tables, shelving, and bulletin boards.
• Maintain carpentry tools in working order.
• Erect, maintain, and dismantle walls and structures.
• Perform related repairs, including plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, ventilation, painting, and wall cover repairs.
• Supervise other skilled and unskilled workers as required.
• Conduct monthly/weekly utility meter readings as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of techniques for basic carpentry trade skills, including the ability to read sketches, prints, and diagrams.
• Ability to operate and maintain various hand and power tools, such as planers, jointers, drill presses, power saws, and sanders.
• Knowledge of applicable safety rules and practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex problems.
• Valid Mississippi motor vehicle operator’s license.

Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years of recent related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
