Lead Carpenter

About the role

We are looking for a thoughtful, driven team member to help us build, remodel, and create beautiful residential spaces while exceeding client expectations. Our work primarily involves medium to large residential remodels, including full-house renovations, ADUs, house lifts, and occasional small commercial projects or custom recording studios and music spaces. We prioritize sustainable, energy-efficient, and human-friendly construction and seek someone who shares this passion.

This role involves custom work, problem-solving, and close collaboration with clients to address details and ensure project success. A willingness to learn, ask questions, and research alternative methods is essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry and direct labor on job sites.
• Evaluate plans, scope of work, and budget before project start; raise questions or concerns early.
• Attend pre-construction meetings with clients and project managers as needed.
• Layout work for self-performed tasks by Akos crews.
• Perform material takeoffs and orders.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors on the job site.
• Interpret plans and provide detailed layouts for subcontractors (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC fixture locations).
• Enforce job site and work-specific safety measures for all workers and subcontractors.
• Ensure all employees complete daily timecards.
• Perform ongoing quality checks and make corrections as needed.
• Photograph job stages and pre-drywall conditions.
• Inspect subcontractor work and request corrections when necessary.
• Communicate regularly with the Project Manager or clients to relay progress, issues, and ensure satisfaction.
• Identify potential out-of-scope work and relay changes to the Project Manager.
• Track change orders and estimate costs with the Project Manager.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly job site.
• Report job progress to the Project Manager and office regularly.
• Provide verbal progress reports at company meetings.

Requirements

• Mindset for high-end, detail-oriented production.
• Superior carpentry skills and knowledge of general building principles.
• Sufficient knowledge of specialty trades to supervise subcontractors.
• Thorough understanding of residential building codes.
• Ability to see the "big picture" and plan daily activities with a 2-week look-ahead schedule.
• Motivation to perform quality work and learn new skills.
• Ability to thrive while working independently.
• Strong personal organization, efficiency, and productivity.

Qualifications

• Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurance.
• Truck or van with a lumber rack capable of hauling tools and materials to job sites.
• Standard set of carpenter’s tools.

Schedule

40 hours per week, with availability for some early starts or later work as needed.
