About the role
The Y is seeking experienced individuals to lead summer day camp programs. This role involves guiding a group of 10-15 youth through various activities, fostering teamwork, decision-making, and positive values.
Responsibilities
- Assists Camp Supervisor in training, guiding, and overseeing Camp Counselors.
- Oversees a group of up to 15 children to ensure their health, safety, and positive experience.
- Implements program activities and assists in planning activities.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.
- Ensures that equipment is clean, safe, set up, and stored properly.
- Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
- Experience planning and implementing group activities.
- Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
- Completion of CPR/First Aid Training at hire or within 30 days of employment.
- Requires driving: Must be 21+, have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, and pass a drug screen.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds.

Driving Duties Requirement
- This role transports clients as an “authorized driver” for the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS) using an employer-provided vehicle.
- Driving duties for this role are Required.
- To become an authorized driver, you must be 21+, have possessed a driver's license for at least 3 years, and pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances (including marijuana) in addition to meeting the driving record standards below:
- No more than two (2) vehicle related suspension(s) and/or reinstatement(s).
- No more than two (2) moving violations and/or accidents.
- Moving violations include, but are not limited to, speeding, improper lane change, failure to yield in right-of-way, failure to obey traffic signal, failure to obey traffic sign.
- No more than two (2) DUI, DWI, OUI, OWI, BUI (Boating), Administrative Per Se, or Refusing to Test for entirety of driving history.
- No more than three (3) DUI, DWI, OUI, OWI, BUI, Administrative Per Se, or Refusing to Test for entirety of driving history.
- No more than three (3) Driving with a suspended/revoked license/insurance, Hit and Run resulting in bodily injury or death, Manslaughter/felony death by motor vehicle.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
