About the role

The Day Camp Counselors are responsible for providing a safe, enriching, and fun program for campers. They are the primary caregivers and program leaders, actively participating and interacting with the children.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all required training
  • Help to develop daily activities
  • Supervise all children within your assigned group
  • Maintain an active awareness of all participants in your area
  • Prepare breakfast and lunch for participants
  • Absorb and assist children with special needs based on individual disabilities, including diaper changes and cleanup
  • Help organize and lead rainy-day activities
  • Aid in the transportation of campers
  • Aid in daily activities
  • Assist with building clean-up and set up at the end of each day

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • One year of experience with people with disabilities
  • Must be safety conscious/oriented
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
  • Must be able to work and relate well with individuals with varying needs
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional/civil manner
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License with two or fewer violations (moving or accident) over the past two years
  • Must possess the ability to pass the online Salvation Army Fleet Safety Driver’s Test
