About the role
The Lead Calibration Engineer plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing all calibration development activity for a given project or family of projects. They ensure that performance expectations are met, requirements are developed and understood, and software and calibration deliverables are on time and on spec.
Responsibilities
- Champion the safety of GM's employees and customers
- Develop calibration strategy and execution plans for each program
- Provide technical direction to a team of chassis feature calibration engineers
- Lead the delivery of on-time and defect-free calibration releases to programs
- Represent calibration team before program and technical leadership
- Maintain a close working relationship with program leadership
- Identify resource needs (people, facilities, vehicles, equipment)
- Create and manage feature assignments and calibration responsibility map in CRETA
- Conduct calibration reviews to ensure high quality calibrations
- Manage vehicle development property usage
- Plan and execute off-site calibration test trips
- Absorb and resolve issues as needed
- Mentor calibration engineers and technical specialists
- Spearhead the resolution of vehicle, system, and controls deficiencies
- Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/lab, or customer issues
- Generate requests for software changes, new features/functions, and safety improvements
- Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)
- Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering degree
- 5+ years of experience in Chassis Controls calibration, vehicle dynamics, performance driving, vehicle integration
- 5+ years of Project Management / Project Leadership experience in the Chassis Controls domain
- Demonstrated ability to lead the integration of complex controls features
- Experienced in data acquisition and analysis, calibration and validation processes
- Solid understanding of SW development and release processes (V-Model)
- Demonstrated initiative to drive for results in areas of innovation and new development
- Quick learner, able to handle multiple projects, as well as planned and unplanned work
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal and collaboration skills across multiple disciplines
- Possess a valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain GM Level 3 driving certification
- Able to travel for winter testing activities in January / February – as needed
- Able to travel for development & ride trips interspersed throughout the year
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledgeable in vehicle dynamics & subjective vehicle evaluation
- Experience with controls / algorithm development
- Current GM Level 3 driver or higher
- Performance driving or Off-Road driving enthusiast
- First-hand experience with GM calibration and development processes
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team of engineers
- Experience and comfort interacting with senior leaders
- Experience working with global teams
